PREVENTION OF FASCIAL RETRACTION

fasciotens®Abdomen

Steady fascial retraction is a common problem in treatment
of the open abdomen. fasciotens®Abdomen applies tension to
the abdominal wall and can thus prevent fascial retraction,
increase intra-abdominal volume and reduce intra-abdominal pressure.
fasciotens®Abdomen thus supports the stabilisation of critically
ill patients, enabling direct, early closure of the open abdomen.

THE MEDICAL PROBLEM

  • Unrestricted fascial retraction

  • Closure often difficult or impossible as a result

The creation of an open abdomen is often a necessary and life-saving

measure as a last resort. However, opening of the abdominal wall also

marks the beginning of steady fascial retraction, which often makes

closure of the abdominal wall difficult or impossible as a result.

Therefore, treatment of the open abdomen requires the use of all available

means to close the abdomen quickly.

THE SOLUTION: FASCIOTENS®ABDOMEN

  • Prevents fascial retraction
  • Keeps the abdominal wall under tension
  • Increases the intra-abdominal volume
  • Lowers the intra-abdominal pressure as a result
  • Enables direct, early closure
  • Can reduce complications

fasciotens®Abdomen achieves the best possible results if it is used

immediately after the open abdomen has been created.

fasciotens®Abdomen applies vertical traction to the fascia and can

thus prevent fascial retraction, increase intra-abdominal volume

and reduce intra-abdominal pressure. These three effects accelerate

closure and increase the rate of closure. However, the patient is

not the only one to benefit from the use of fasciotens® Abdomen.

Fewer revisions, a shorter hospital stay and better utilisation

of DRGs also enable the hospital to make savings. fasciotens®Abdomen

lends itself to combination with other therapies (e.g. vacuum therapy)

and can also be integrated easily into the nursing routine on the ICU.

FINANCIAL ADVANTAGES OF USING FASCIOTENS® ABDOMEN

Shorten treatment time, save costs

Compared to the previous procedure, in which the retraction of the fascia

was accepted, there are various medical and financial advantages in

the use of fasciotens®Abdomen. With the previous procedure, there is a

steady increase of the fascia distance in the course of the treatment period.

Only after the edema has receded can the recovery of the abdominal

wall be started. By using fasciotens®Abdomen directly during the creation

of the open abdomen, on the other hand, the fascia retraction is prevented

and the abdominal wall is already stretched during the time of the oedema,

so that the abdomen can be closed directly after the oedema has receded.

The cost saving of fasciotens®abdomen results from

• Shortening the ITS stay (approx. 1,500€/day)

• Reduction of revision interventions (3,500€/intervention)

• Increase in ITS capacity due to earlier transfer

fasciotens®Hernia

INTRAOPERATIVE FASCIAL STRETCHING

fasciotens®Hernia

Previously, in order to close complex hernias, time-consuming abdominal

wall reconstruction procedures were required. fasciotens®Hernia makes it possible

to stretch the abdominal wall intraoperatively in approx. 30 minutes via

standardised,controlled traction.

Thanks to the (CE-)certified fasciotens®Hernia, a mean gain in length of

approx. 10 cm can be achieved with maximum preservation of tissue,

which makes it possible to preserve the integrity of the abdominal wall and

to close the hernia directly and safely.1)

DESCRIPTION OF THE MEDICAL PROBLEM

  • Direct closure of complex hernias is often difficult
  • Extensive reconstruction procedures can weaken the abdominal wall
  • High complication rates
  • Increased morbidity long-term

Previously, complex hernias could often only be closed using extensive

and complicated reconstructive procedures. However, these procedures

can often weaken the abdominal wall and lead to increased long-term morbidity.

THE SOLUTION: FASCIOTENS®HERNIA

  • Enables direct closure of complex hernias
  • Alternative to time-consuming abdominal wall reconstructions
  • Respects the anatomical integrity of the abdominal wall
  • Avoids specific complications of other procedures

Safety thanks to…

  • CE-certification OR CE-certified medical device (depending on space)
  • Standardised diagonal traction
  • Patented tissue-preserving technique
  • Quantifiable gain in fascial length

fasciotens®Hernia has been developed to close complex hernias (> 8 cm) directly

and without the need for time-consuming abdominal wall reconstruction procedures.

The anatomical integrity (of the abdominal wall) is respected and specific

complications of other procedures are avoided.

fasciotens®Hernia is a CE-certified medical device that provides the patient and

surgeon with the highest degree of application safety via quantifiable,

intraoperative and uniform fascial traction for about 30 minutes. fasciotens®Hernia is

conveniently and safely attached to the operating table in conjunction

with fasciotens® Carrier.
